The Doctor of Ministry degree is a professional degree rather than a strictly academic credential such as the Th.D. or Ph.D. It is designed to offer men who already have extensive experience in vocational ministry the opportunity to increase their biblical and theological competence as well as their ministry skill. The program is neither purely practical nor purely theoretical, but seeks to combine study with practical ministry. Students will expand their knowledge of the Old Testament, the New Testament, and theology. They will sharpen their goals, refine their skills, and address their weaknesses in a seminary setting while continuing in active, vocational ministry.

The purpose of the Doctor of Ministry program is to enable students to increase their theological and ministerial skills as spiritual Christian leaders.
At Central Seminary, we assume that the men coming into our D.Min. program are pastors or church planting missionaries. We do accept men who are involved in other ministries, but the program is tailored especially to be useful to pastors.
The objectives are: each student who completes the D.Min. program at Central Seminary will be able to:
- identify his strengths and weaknesses as a spiritual leader, giving emphasis to servant leadership.
- evaluate his approach to leadership, outreach, preaching, or counseling.
- engage in critical interaction with the latest theories, tools, methods, and resources pertaining to spiritual and servant leadership within the church.
- express sharpened exegetical skills with the biblical text.
- demonstrate his competence in biblical and systematic theology through exposure to contemporary theological issues.
- demonstrate a development of his ministry skill.

Students in the D.Min. program may choose to emphasize a particular area of ministry through their electives. Central Seminary offers electives in the following areas:
Expository Preaching
Students who emphasize Expository Preaching aim for excellence in the preaching and teaching of the Word of God. This emphasis focuses on the pulpit.
Shepherding
By emphasizing Shepherding, students develop pastoral leadership and administration skills in order to define their ministry's mission, assess its effectiveness, and organize for maximum impact.
General
Central Seminary also offers a general emphasis which allows the student to choose his own emphasis by choosing between course offerings. |
